I am old enough to remember the days when we used to say, ”Saint-Aubin is a hidden gem situated just behind Puligny and Chassagne, and it commands only half price.” Those were the days – I´m happy that this excellent appellation has gotten the recognition it deserves. Even though burgundy prices have skyrocketed – it´s still mostly a better deal than Meursault or Puligny. Some of my first acquaintances in Saint Aubin were the excellent wines signed Hubert Lamy. Certainly, a pioneer and driving force behind the quality surge we´ve witnessed. La Princée 2021 offers most of the attributes I look for in white burgundy -purity, precision, tension, concentration without heaviness, and plenty of stone and chalk to avoid that darn M-word. Being the ”basic” cuvée from the house, it‘s far from basic, delivering at least on a premier cru level. This is also reassuring, as premox has scared the living daylights out of me for a major part of my adult life. This is a wine that I truly believe will age for a small eternity! Even though I love its youthful vibrancy and energy!
